What a client portal builder does

An online customer workspace lets clients check work, review files and send requests. A client portal builder turns your team’s records into that focused experience.

A client portal shaped around your work

Turn your project records into a focused customer view. Choose the milestones, files and billing information to share.

Client view
Configure each client’s view around their project status, documents, invoices and requests.
Your records
The portal reads from the projects and invoices you track; update a record and the client view follows.
A portal bringing client details, shared documents and project controls together

Turn requests into an accountable workflow

Capture a request with its project and owner. Keep progress and your reply attached to the work, not a separate inbox.

1 Submitted
The client sends a request with context; attachments optional.
2 Assigned
A teammate owns it and replies in the same thread.
3 Visible
The client sees the status and the answer without asking again.
A client request moving into an assigned record and a completed response

Control what each client can access

Set client and team roles around your records. Keep internal notes private while sharing the updates a customer needs.

Client role
Read access to their own records; internal notes and other clients stay hidden.
Team role
Your team edits the underlying records and controls what is shared.

Describe it, test it, invite clients

  1. 1

    Describe your client workflow

List what clients ask about—status, files, invoices—or attach a sample project tracker.

  2. 2

    Test with both roles

Open the portal as a teammate and as a client; check exactly what each role can see before inviting anyone.

  3. 3

    Share and automate gradually

Send clients the link, then add reminders and notifications as the workflow settles.

I used Teable for a team with leads spread across sheets, CRM exports, and automations. We now import, follow up, and track dashboards in one flow. One system replaced half a dozen disconnected tools.

🧨 Teable does not just compete with Airtable. It exposes what Airtable is missing. Modern teams do not need nicer spreadsheets. They need operational systems that can run themselves. Teable turns tables into workflows, AI actions, and internal apps.

Teable 3.0 feels like a grown-up spreadsheet. It keeps the familiar grid and adds automations, AI actions, and internal app building in one platform. I finally got the control model I used to assemble manually.

Building and sharing questions

Is it free to build a client portal?

Yes. Teable includes a one-time credit allowance to try building and refining a portal with AI. Start with one client workflow; credit use depends on the work you request. When the allowance is used, choose a paid plan to continue AI work. See current plans for allowances and access options. See current plans

Can I start without an existing portal or code?

Yes. Describe what clients need to see and do, then add a sample tracker or connect the records you already maintain. Teable can generate a web app around that workflow. Begin with one client and refine the screens before inviting more.

How do approvals stay tied to the right file?

Keep a version, reviewer and decision beside each deliverable. Ask the Agent to link feedback and approval records to that version, so a revised design does not inherit an old approval. Decide which changes require another review.

How do I keep client records separate?

Set data permissions for client and team roles alongside the portal screens. Before sharing live records, sign in as two different clients and a teammate, and check each role’s files, requests and internal notes.

Can the client portal handle invoice payments or signatures?

Show invoice status and add links to the payment or signing services you already use. Complete payments and contract signing in those services, then update the portal from your billing and signing records.

Can I change the portal after clients start using it?

Yes. Ask Teable Agent to adjust fields, pages and workflows as projects evolve. Keep stable client records, test changes to access and approvals, and then roll out the update. Clients use the portal in their browser.
